More than 420 people visited Skellefteå Droneport during Society Expo 2026. The open house events attracted everyone from families with children and seniors to national and international delegations eager to learn more about the future of drone and electric aviation technology.

Six days of open house activities, guided tours, and hands on experiences where visitors could try the technology themselves generated significant interest in Skellefteå Droneport. Visitors had a unique opportunity to get close to the operations, meet industry stakeholders, and discover how the site is being used to develop the drone and aviation services of tomorrow.

“We expected people to come, but not on this scale. I would definitely say that the open house days have been a real success. There has been fantastic activity up here throughout the week,” says Ola Norman, who was responsible for the activities at Skellefteå Droneport during Society Expo 2026.

In total, around 420 people attended the open house events. Visitors took part in presentations about the activities at the site, learned more about the possibilities of drone technology, and tested their own flying skills on a specially designed obstacle course. The two drones used by visitors completed more than 501 flights, covering a combined distance of over 23 kilometres and accumulating approximately 17 hours of flight time.

Visitors Gained a Unique Insight into the Operations

To make it easier for people to visit Skellefteå Droneport, shuttle buses operated to and from the site during Society Expo. In addition, several guided bus tours were arranged. During their stop at Skellefteå Droneport, participants received an introduction to Arctic Aviation Hub and the ongoing efforts to commercialise drone services and electric aviation.

“Many visitors are impressed when they see the operations firsthand and learn about the initiatives taking place here. It is a completely different experience from simply reading about it,” says Ola Norman.

Arctic Aviation Hub also participated in Aviation Day at Skellefteå Airport, as well as in several other activities and seminars throughout Society Expo.

Skellefteå’s Investment Sparked International Interest

Interest in Skellefteå Droneport extended well beyond the general public. During Society Expo, the facility also welcomed several national and international delegations seeking insight into how the site is being used to support the development of future aviation solutions.

In total, Skellefteå Droneport hosted more than 170 visitors from eleven external groups. Many guests were particularly interested in how the site is used for testing and development, as well as how Skellefteå is creating the conditions needed for the sustainable aviation solutions of the future.

Overall, the events can be regarded as highly successful in showcasing the region’s investments and ambitions within the future of aviation.
