Recently, representatives from Skellefteå Municipality and Arctic Aviation Hub gathered at Skellefteå Droneport for a training session focused on how to build and operate professional and safe drone operations within the existing regulatory framework.

Skellefteå Droneport is part of Skellefteå Science City’s work to accelerate innovation through test environments that connect technology with societal benefit. Through initiatives like this, we create the conditions for drone technology to be developed and used in a safe and long term way.

During the day, participants gained a holistic understanding of drones as a system. Topics ranged from flight safety and regulatory requirements to risk analysis, operational roles, drone airports, and how the public sector can work strategically with procurement and future development.

The aim was to establish a shared platform for how safe, scalable and socially beneficial drone operations can be implemented in practice, and to clarify the role that test environments such as Skellefteå Droneport can play in the growing ecosystem.

The training was delivered by Paul Carbonnier from Carbon Coaching, who has extensive experience in aviation, leadership and regulatory advisory services within both manned aviation and the drone sector.

Planning is now underway for a shorter follow up session tailored for municipal officials working in community and urban development.
