About Skellefteå

Skellefteå is located by the coast in the northern part of Sweden. It is a fast growing city with a strong focus on renewable energy, green transition, electrification and sustainable mobility. Skellefteå is well connected to the rest of the world and there are several daily flights to and from Stockholm Arlanda Airport with a flight time of around one hour.

With a sub-arctic climate there are needs for robust mobility solutions all year round and thereby a perfect location for test, development and commercial implementation in close cooperation with society.

Skellefteå has an international airport, a large harbour and is home to one of Sweden’s largest power companies as well as mining industry, battery industry and one of the world’s most efficient copper smelters which is also a world leader in electronics recycling.

In 2026 Skellefteå will host Society Expo 2026 which is a global event highlighting Skellefteå and exploring sustainable solutions to the challenges we face. The aim is to discover and showcase knowledge and tools that make a real impact – both locally and globally.
