Authorized Drone Pilot Course with a Flexible Setup

27 Aug 2025

Drone technology is developing rapidly, and the demand for trained pilots is growing. AirForestry now offers an authorized Drone Pilot Course Specific Category, where certain parts are conducted digitally and others with physical presence at Skellefteå Droneport.

Thanks to the Swedish Transport Agency’s new guidelines for Authorized Drone Pilot Course in Specific Category, the course can now be designed more dynamically, with the option to complete some sections digitally in a virtual classroom and others on-site. Instead of six days on-site, the new setup will provide a better balance between digital and physical elements.

However, parts of the theory lessons, the theory exam, flight training, and flight test will still require physical presence at Skellefteå Droneport.

The work of adapting the course to the new structure and having it approved by the Transport Agency is expected to take a few weeks, which means that the first course start is planned for Q4.

Structure

  • Theory modules and self-study: Partly remote/virtual classroom

  • Theory exam, flight training, and flight test: On-site at Skellefteå Droneport

  • Quality assurance: The course is adapted to meet the Swedish Transport Agency’s requirements and approval for Specific Category
