Drone
22 May 2025Henrik Heed is studying to become a licensed drone pilot through a remote learning program, but it's during his internship at Arctic Aviation Hub and Skellefteå Droneport that the technology is truly put to the test. Throughout his placement, he has gained both new experiences and valuable contacts and is now working on a presentation film showcasing the test environments at Skellefteå Airport, Skellefteå Droneport, and Campus.
“I came across an article about Arctic Aviation Hub and found it very interesting, so I reached out. I wanted hands-on insight into what it’s like working with drones, and hopefully get a foot in the industry. I’ve really had the opportunity to do that here,” says Henrik Heed.
Henrik is doing his LIA (Learning in Work) internship at Arctic Aviation Hub for six weeks during the spring. The internship is an important part of the drone pilot program he is taking remotely via YH Akademin. In addition to the practical experience, the training includes subjects such as law, procurement, hardware and software, and flight theory.
For Henrik, who normally works as a driller in the Kiruna mine every other week, drone technology is both a passion and a possible future career path.
“Technology has always been a big interest of mine, and flying drones is just really fun. My dream is to start my own company so I can take on assignments around northern Sweden, discover new places, meet people, and do all kinds of drone-related work,” he says.
Presentation film using Drones
During his internship in Skellefteå, Henrik has met with actors like Skellefteå Kraft, the Rescue Services, and Skellefteå Airport and is now fully engaged in producing a presentation film using drones as the main tool.
“Skellefteå Droneport is really at the forefront. Drones are a tool that saves both time and money, are more environmentally friendly, and make dangerous tasks safer. It’s a step into the future,” Henrik says.

Henrik Littorin, Program Manager at Arctic Aviation Hub, is glad to support the education of future drone pilots.
“Welcoming interns like Henrik is one way we contribute to the talent pipeline in a growing industry. He has shown great curiosity, drive, and a willingness to learn—all qualities that fit well in our environment.”
For Henrik Heed, the internship was also a chance to explore a new city.
“I had never been to Skellefteå before, but I’m glad I came here. I’ve met many kind and helpful people who made this project possible.”
