Energy and Transport Hubs for Regional Development – Electrified Regional Aviation in Interplay with other Transport Modes and the Energy System.

Project start

2026

Budget

3,5 MSEK

Project end

2028

This project develops an integrated analysis framework to understand how the transition to electric and other fossilfree regional aviation interacts with rail, road transport and the energy system.

Using Skellefteå City Airport and Örnsköldsvik Airport as representative partners, the project links operational features of future fossil-free aircraft, passenger travel demand, and multi-modal transport connectivity to synthesize airport energy and power needs.

By combining transport modelling with energy‑system feedbacks, the project quantifies impacts on transport routes, spatio-temporal energy needs, accessibility and system resilience.

Results support decisions on charging infrastructure, grid capacity expansion, energy storage, SAF/eSAF strategies and regional transport planning, and are shared with airports, regions, national agencies and energy actors through targeted workshops, policy briefs and conference presentations.
